Arteta made quite a few changes in the lineup that started in the club's 4-0 win over Ipswich Town last Sunday. Raheem Sterling replaced Bukayo Saka in the attack, while Thomas Partey returned to the lineup.

Better than Ndiaye: 8/10 Everton star has made himself undroppable to Moyes

David Moyes has just masterminded a 3-2 victory for Everton over Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park, with goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Iliman Ndiaye and an Archie Gray own goal.

Despite having just 36% possession in the game, Everton managed to generate 2.03 xG against Tottenham, compared to the 1.11 xG generated by Ange Postecoglou’s side.

This goes against the words of Darren Bent before the game, stating the Toffees had been “apprehensive in front of goal” this season.

Everton managed to create five big chances, effectively breaking the lines of Spurs’ press, going from back to front efficiently and getting their shots off (12 in the game), with one man in particular leading the charge.

Iliman Ndiaye's performance in numbers vs Spurs

Ndiaye has been Everton’s star man in attack this season, joining in the summer from Marseille for a fee of around £16.9m. In his time at the club so far, the 24-year-old has made 24 appearances, scoring six goals in his 1,949 minutes played.

Against Tottenham, Ndiaye played 81 minutes, managing 50 touches on the ball, taking two shots (one on target) and completing four out of his six dribble attempts in the game, often at the heart of Everton’s attacks, receiving the ball and carrying it out on the counter.

It was his mesmeric goal that proved to be the showstopping moment, dribbling forward with pace and then dancing around Radu Dragusin as though he wasn’t even there.

He also did his bit off the ball, winning seven of his 17 contested ground duels, winning one of his three contested aerial duels and making two tackles, showing the attackers’ willingness to work for his team both on and off the ball, in order to have an impact on the game.

Idrissa Gueye's performance in numbers vs Spurs

Idrissa Gueye was the key in midfield, providing energy, physicality and defensive stability in the middle of the park, winning duels for fun and setting Everton on the break numerous times.

Gueye was winning the ball back in midfield to great effect, kick-starting Everton’s counterattacks, winning his duel (75% on the ground) and looking to play quickly forwards, which explains the nature of his two assists in the game.

Whether it was the defensive groundwork, simplifying play (with a 95% passing accuracy) to keep possession, or speeding up the tempo by playing through the lines, Gueye was at the heart of everything positive Everton did, earning him an impressive 8/10 match rating from the Liverpool Echo who explained that he was ‘showing there is silk as well as steel to his game.’

The performances of both Ndiaye and Gueye, among others, have given Moyes a huge statement win, which could be a great starting point for Everton to begin climbing away from the relegation zone, now sitting 16th in the Premier League, with their next games against Brighton and Leicester City.

América reportedly eye Atlas Jeremy Márquez as top summer transfer target

Márquez is expected to renew his contract with Atlas in the coming weeks to avoid leaving the club on a free transfer.

    WHAT HAPPENED?

Despite a season marred by injuries, inconsistency, and a disappointing CONCACAF Champions Cup exit, Club América remain in the hunt for a historic fourth straight Liga MX title. But with a thinner squad than in previous championship runs, the club is already looking ahead – and one name is rising to the top of their summer wishlist.

According to a report from W Radio, América has identified Atlas midfielder Jeremy Márquez as a key transfer target. The 24-year-old has impressed with his energy, creativity, and versatility – attributes that align well with manager André Jardine’s high-tempo style. With injuries to Jonathan dos Santos and Alan Cervantes, and the midseason departure of Richard Sánchez, Las Águilas have leaned heavily on Álvaro Fidalgo and Erick Sánchez in the middle. The lack of depth has become increasingly apparent.

That’s where Márquez could fit in.

Already on the radar of the Mexico national team, Márquez offers a dynamic skill set that América believes could reinvigorate its midfield and help sustain their title push. Club officials view him as a potential long-term solution, not just for depth, but as a key piece to extend their dominance at the top of Mexican football.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Although Márquez has not yet renewed his contract with Atlas, negotiations are expected to begin soon to avoid losing him on a free transfer. Still, sources close to the situation suggest América is willing to pay a substantial fee to bring him to Coapa.

No formal offer has been submitted, and talks between the clubs have yet to begin, but interest from América is serious. Atlas, undergoing a significant rebuild under new head coach Gonzalo Pineda, is reportedly open to a shake-up—and that could open the door for a swap deal involving current América players.

Two names have surfaced as potential bargaining chips: winger Javairô Dilrosun, whose time at América appears to be winding down, and Chilean center-back Igor Lichnovsky, currently recovering from a ligament injury. Both players are said to be of interest to Atlas. Lichnovsky, in particular, could slot into a back-three system alongside Martín Nervo and Matheus Doria.

A player-plus-cash deal involving Márquez, Dilrosun, and/or Lichnovsky is not off the table, and sources indicate it could be a win-win solution as both clubs look to reshape their rosters for the 2025 Apertura.

Blackburn agree deal to sign "explosive" £40,000-a-week Premier League ace

Blackburn Rovers are said to have agreed a deal to sign an “explosive” Premier League attacker, according to a new update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Latest Blackburn news

John Eustace’s side are sitting pretty in a playoff place in the Championship currently, with supporters growing increasingly confident that a return to the Premier League could be on the cards this season.

Last Friday, Rovers battled their way to a 2-1 victory at home to Preston North End, as they added three more precious points to their league tally, and next up is a trip to Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday evening.

Blackburn have continued to be linked with new signings in the last remaining days of the January transfer window, with Augustus Kargbo arriving last month to bolster the attacking options at Eustace’s disposal.

Coventry City striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has also emerged as a target, having only moved to his current club from West Brom last summer, but it looks as though he will stay put for the time being. Now, it looks like an alternative attacking option could come in at the eleventh hour of the window, with an exciting update emerging on deadline day evening.

Blackburn agree deal to sign "explosive" ace

Taking to X, Romano claimed that Blackburn have agreed a deal to sign Nottingham Forest attacker Emmanuel Dennis on the final day of the window: “Blackburn Rovers agree deal to sign Emmanuel Dennis from Nottingham Forest. Player now on his way for medical tests.”

The £40,000-a-week Dennis could be a great addition for Blackburn, bringing with him proven Premier League quality, having scored 12 goals and registered eight assists in 52 appearances in the competition.

The 27-year-old has also netted four times in 17 outings in the Championship, while Tom Cleverley lauded his abilities during his time working with the striker at Watford: “We know that Dennis has got that explosive burst. As a defender, you can think you’re comfortable on the ball, and then he appears from nowhere.”

At 27 years of age, this is no panic buy from Blackburn, in terms of signing a player who is on the wane and in his 30s, and he could be hungry to prove himself after a lack of minutes in a Forest shirt this season.

The superb form of Chris Wood was understandably going to see his playing time limited, and in fact, he hasn’t made a single appearance, only highlighting why a fresh challenge will surely appeal to him midway through the season.

Match-winners in the final third are the difference-maker in any promotion battle, so Blackburn will be hoping that Dennis can chip in with some telling contributions in the next three months, putting his experience to good use.

    WHAT HAPPENED

Despite Inter Miami’s recent 4-1 win over the New York Red Bulls, their Argentine superstar Lionel Messi didn't appear to be happy at the end of the game. That was showcased by his storm off the field after the final whistle, and Herculez Gomez believes it’s because he’s frustrated with his teammates. The former USMNT and MLS star asserted that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner expects a certain standard from his teammates and is now expressing his frustration when he doesn’t get it.

“Messi is on the field, and I was talking about this when you are watching the game, away from the TV, at the stadium, you can see the movement off the ball, on the ball,” Gomez said on . “But you can also see the lack of (movements), and you can also see the lack of understanding, and you can also see the frustration. Messi is by far the best player on the field, and that is evident. What is also evident is the urgency in which Messi desperately needs more help."

He added, “Messi gets the ball, he plays it, and he already understands who he can play it to, and he’ll run off that and his run, or the pace of that run, will be determined by who he gives it to. If he gives it to one of the 'Messi’s friends,' Alba, Busquets, or Luis Suarez, he knows that there’s the capacity to return that play to him, and there’s a little more effort and purpose to the run. And oftentimes when he gives it to another player, he waits cause he knows that’s probably not going to get there."

    WHAT HERCULEZ GOMEZ SAID

The ESPN analyst also added that there’s a visible frustration that’s now evident whenever Messi does things second nature and his teammates struggle to respond in like.

“He tries to play a pass, a quick one-two to Fafa Picault, and Fafa Picault gets it stuck between his feet, and you can see Messi just frustrated," Gomez explained. "There’s a certain not frustration but fed up, he’s annoyed with how things are going. I don’t think he quite expected this heading into Inter Miami, and the recent failures are being magnified."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Inter Miami have endured a tough couple of weeks as they were knocked out of the CONCACAF Champions Cup after a comprehensive 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Vancouver Whitecaps. Not only that, they also lost 4-3 to FC Dallas, which saw the club lose not once but thrice in the space of a week. It marked the first three losses for Inter Miami this season, although they bounced back with a 4-1 win over the New York Red Bulls on May 3.

Ahead of the game against Watford, Daniel Farke and Leeds have suffered a blow, as it’s been confirmed that defender Max Wober is set to be on the sidelines for around six weeks. Wober missed the FA Cup clash against Millwall over the weekend and has suffered a setback in his return.

“He has an ongoing knee problem and will need surgery as quickly as possible and will be out until after the next international break,” Farke explained ahead of the Watford game. “He will have surgery and be out for six weeks.”

Away from injury news, Farke also revealed that discussions have not been held over new contracts for players whose deals are coming to an end. Loan star Solomon set to be available for permanent deal this summer

As well as deciding on the futures of out-of-contract players, Leeds will also have decisions to make about loanees, and according to GIVE ME SPORT, Manor Solomon could be available for a transfer this summer after his loan comes to an end at Elland Road.

The report states that Solomon will likely be allowed to leave Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent basis if the opportunity is presented. The 25-year-old joined the Whites on a season-long loan deal during the summer transfer window and has made a big impact in helping Leeds reach the top of the Championship table.

Solomon, who has been labelled “unplayable” this season by former Leeds boss Neil Redfearn, has shown great technical skill this season, as he’s been a real threat not only in terms of goals for Leeds, but also for creating chances for his teammates. The Palace goalkeeper stopped a crucial spot kick from the Egyptian forward and admitted after the game that he believed he would make the save when he saw that Haaland would not take it. Many would have expected the Norwegian to step up amid the pressure and tuck home the penalty, including Henderson, but he handed the responsibility to Marmoush who fluffed his lines. Haaland may be wishing he did not shirk the chance now.

    WHAT HENDERSON SAID

Speaking after the game, Henderson told : "It's incredible, we had a feeling it'd be our day today. The manager had a gameplan, we executed. We deserve this so much.

"Haaland might've stepped up, I didn't know which way he'd go, but Marmoush, I knew which way he was going. I knew I would save it."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

The penalty was City's biggest chance to get back into the game after Eberechi Eze guided home to put the Eagles 1-0 up. However, Henderson was perhaps lucky to remain on the pitch. A check by VAR was needed to assess whether he had denied Haaland an obvious goalscoring opportunity, but the striker was judged to be taking the ball away from goal and therefore "a possible, but not an obvious goal scoring opportunity." After the game Henderson said he did not think it was a red card. He claimed: "The ball carried into my box, I knew I was fine, it held up as it was a bit dry, it doesn't matter, who cares?"

Textor could now sell £50m Crystal Palace star with Guehi this summer

Crystal Palace could now sanction an unpopular sale alongside Marc Guehi this summer, it has emerged, with controversial owner John Textor pushing for a move to be completed, according to a fresh report.

Crystal Palace could sell Marc Guehi

Most around Crystal Palace realise they need to sell club captain Marc Guehi this summer after fighting off bids from Premier League rivals for each of the last two transfer windows.

The former Chelsea youth academy graduate is out of contract in 2026, making this summer the last real opportunity to cash in on the England international for any meaningful fee, and there has as yet been no indication that he is willing to pen a new deal in south London, despite his importance to Oliver Glasner.

He was the subject of strong interest from Newcastle United over the summer, who had a string of bids rejected as they looked to bolster Eddie Howe’s backline in a move that would have been a record signing for the Magpies.

Then, Guehi was also the subject of a late £70m bid from Tottenham in January, with the Lilywhites looking to sign the England defender as they aimed to solve their own defensive crisis before eventually moving to sign Kevin Danso from Lens.

Having already seen Trevoh Chalobah return to Chelsea after his loan spell was cut short, and also losing Chadi Riad to a knee injury for the remainder of the campaign, Palace could not afford to lose another defender given how little time was left in the window, let alone one as important as Guehi.

However, there is now a queue of clubs lining up to try and take him away from south London this summer, and it is thought that at present it is Chelsea leading the way for his signature, though Tottenham and Newcastle still feature and Liverpool have longstanding interest.

While Guehi’s departure is largely expected, there could be another exit from Selhurst Park this summer, one which would go down far less well with the Palace faithful.

Textor could sell Crystal Palace star Mateta for £50m

That comes via a report from The Sun, who report that unpopular Crystal Palace owner John Textor is pushing to get Lyon to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta this summer in a ‘controversial’ move that could spark a scramble for his signature.

Textor also owns Lyon, and it is now reported that he “wants them to bid” for Mateta, who has impressed under Glasner since the Austrian took over in south London.

He is not alone in his admiration, with European giants Barcelona and Manchester United both having been sensationally linked with a move for the 27-year-old in recent weeks after he took his goal tally for the season to 13.

A firm fan favourite at Selhurst Park, it is claimed that Palace would slap a hefty £50m price tag on his head this summer before agreeing to any sale, with his contract not set to expire until 2027 and therefore the club under little pressure to sell.

Crystal Palace's Jean-PhilippeMatetacelebrates after the match

For his part, it is claimed that Mateta “will seek to join an elite club”, which could in turn put Lyon out of the frame should he continue to catch the eye of Europe’s top clubs. His exit, on top of Guehi’s, would be a difficult summer for Palace to bounce back from.
