Man United fans erupt over Cavani update

Flocking to Twitter, many Manchester United fans have gone wild for an update involving Edinson Cavani as reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano shares the latest.

Cavani, who was a regular for the Red Devils last campaign, making 26 Premier League appearances in total, has found himself playing more of a bit-part role since extending his stay at Old Trafford.

The Uruguayan, after contributing with 10 goals and three assists over his top-flight outings last year, has so far managed just two starts and three cameos off the bench – scoring once in that time (WhoScored).

This has led to rumours linking him with a move away as soon as January as top European clubs circle for the striker, but as per Romano, it appears United fans may not have to worry.

According to the transfer journalist, despite his lack of game time so far, United and new manager Ralf Rangnick still consider him an important member of the team with no approach made by La Liga giants Barcelona (Twitter).

He also refutes links to Corinthians, insisting supporters breathe easily as no club have taken a step to sign Cavani.

Man United fans buzz…

Given his impact last season and flashes of brilliance when given the opportunity this campaign, the 34-year-old could still have a role to play under Rangnick and it’s safe to say United fans are overjoyed he’s nowhere closer to the exit door.

Liverpool fans react to Thiago return

Many Liverpool fans have erupted at the news that midfielder Thiago Alcantara could be back for their next match.

According to The Liverpool Echo, the 30-year-old should return to full team training ahead of the FA Cup fourth round clash with Cardiff City at Anfield next Sunday. He may well be in contention to start at the weekend, or at least make an appearance from the bench.

Elsewhere, Divock Origi should return to the fold before the end of February as he recovers from a knee problem, while Harvey Elliott is building up his ‘general fitness’ at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby after missing more than four months with a serious ankle injury.

Why is this a big deal?

Thiago hasn’t played a Premier League match since the 3-1 victory over Newcastle United nine days before Christmas.

Significantly, Liverpool have won all eight top-flight games that the Spaniard has started this season, so his comeback is a welcome boost as the Reds try to reel in Manchester City at the top of the table.

Fan feed Anfield Watch relayed The Liverpool Echo’s report, and here’s what some supporters had to say about the Spain midfielder’s impending return to action. For some Kopites, it adds to the positive vibes around Anfield after the signing of Luis Diaz in recent days.

Pundit claims Parrott won’t cut it at Spurs

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, David Norris, who made 118 appearances for Ipswich Town, has claimed that on-loan striker, Troy Parrott, won’t be able to make a career for himself at his parent club Tottenham Hotspur.

Parrott has high expectations at Spurs with current manager, Ryan Mason, claiming that the club still have confidence in the striker to fulfil his potential, despite a tough time during both his loan spells at Ipswich and Milwall respectively this season.

The 19-year old has only managed one goal in 29 games this campaign, which saw him also fail to score at all during the first half of the season when he played 11 times in the Championship with Millwall.

Speaking on how his loan spells haven’t worked out for him and how he doesn’t think the striker has enough to make it at Tottenham, Norris exclusively told FFC:

“It’s not worked out for him because one goal in 15 games is not great and it’s not what the club would have hoped for, and it’s certainly not what the lad would have wanted.

“I think I’d probably say I’m not sure he’s going to cut it in the Premier League.”

Parrott has made just four appearances for Spurs but his record for their U18s side was phenomenal, which saw him score 17 goals in 15 games.

Spurs may feel he needs a season in their U23s to potentially regain some of his confidence after a poor season on the pitch for the Republic of Ireland international.

Spurs: Gold drops Conte update

Alasdair Gold has dropped an update on the future of Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte.

What’s the talk?

In a recent video posted on YouTube, the football.london journalist revealed that, despite recent reports claiming that Conte would be interested in taking over from Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain this summer, people close to the 52-year-old have claimed that there is nothing to these rumours.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-levy-conte-paratici-thfc” title= “Read the latest Spurs news!”]

Regarding the Italian’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Gold said: “We should also talk about Conte and PSG. Reports coming out from one French outlet say that Conte dreams of managing PSG. Look, I’ve spoken to a few people around Conte, and they say it’s not true… his people claim there is nothing to it.”

Supporters will be buzzing

Considering the extremely impressive job Conte has done since taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo in the Tottenham dugout back in November, the news that the 52-year-old is not currently planning on leaving the club for PSG this summer is sure to have left the Spurs faithful buzzing.

Indeed, while there have been a number of Premier League fixtures against Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in February – it is undeniable that Conte has improved Spurs’ performances on the pitch.

Indeed, having won 13, drawn four and lost six of his eighth in the top flight standings to fifth – just two points behind Arsenal, who currently occupy the last Champions League spot in fourth.

And, with Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy having already committed the best part of £60m on the signings of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur in the January transfer window – both of whom are very much Conte-type players – it would appear likely that the former Inter Milan boss will receive the backing of the Spurs hierarchy once again this summer.

As such, it is clear to see that Gold’s suggestion the club can plan for 2022/23 with the Italian overseeing operations is undoubtedly fantastic news for all involved with Tottenham, as the prospect of Conte having a summer transfer window and a full pre-season to work with his Spurs side would appear to bode extremely well for the club’s chances of success next time out.

Sunderland: Wright not ready to return

The last few months have been a tale of woe in terms of injury issues for Sunderland.

On a repeated basis, the Mackems are dealt with some sort of injury problem, but with seven wins from their last nine matches, they have managed to brush the distraction aside.

They did receive some good news this week that Denver Hume is edging closer to a return. He played 45 minutes against Gateshead a few days ago and has trained well.

However, the majority of the news that Lee Johnson shared in his pre-match press conference was negative. He revealed that Jordan Jones only had a 30% chance of being fit for Saturday before announcing that their clash with Bristol Rovers would come too soon for Bailey Wright.

Johnson commented: “Bailey is feeling really good but he is not immediately close to a return.”

Wright has been out with a calf tear since the middle of February and has now missed eight straight games in the league. Coincidentally, the Mackems have kept six clean sheets without him.

However, with the Australian set to miss out again this weekend, it gives Johnson a dilemma. Does the manager finally remove Luke O’Nien from the centre of defence and replace him with Conor McLaughlin or Ollie Younger?

O’Nien has been influential at centre-back for a number of weeks and has been one of the main reasons for those half-a-dozen clean sheets.

That being said, he was out of sorts against Lincoln a week ago. The former Wycombe man made an error in the first half and should have done better for the Imps’ equaliser.

Although O’Nien has filled in admirably, it wouldn’t be a great surprise if he is back in midfield before too long. With Wright and Tom Flanagan moving closer to returns, their comebacks will be crucial in the race for promotion.

At the moment, Sunderland sit in third place but they are just two points behind Peterborough, who make up the final automatic place.

Everton transfer update on White

Many Everton fans have been left to buzz as a transfer update emerged on Ben White. As per The Daily Mail, the Goodison Park faithful are looking to beat Arsenal to the signature of the Brighton and Hove Albion central defender, and have held talks over a £50m deal, with an extra £5m in add-ons.£20m would be paid up front with an extra £30m spread equally over the four years, and White has been left impressed by the speed at which the Merseyside club are working at.Even though the Toffees currently have four centre-backs at their disposal in Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina, Holgate has been linked with a move away in the summer window, and White’s extra versatility means that he is equally as comfortable at playing at right-back as well as in a defensive midfield role.[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-updates-4/” title=”Everton updates! AVFC: Fans react to Axel Tuanzbe update

Aston Villa have been backed to sign Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe by Football Insider pundit Paddy Kenny.

And plenty of Villa supporters have been giving their thoughts on a possible move on social media.

According to Football Insider, Villa have been handed a huge boost in their attempts to sign the 23-year-old.

Talks between the two clubs have taken place, with United willing to listen to offers for Tuanzebe, should they land a replacement this summer.

Kenny was talking to Football Insider following the update and believes Dean Smith’s side has the ‘edge’ following the defender’s Villa Park loan stint, describing it as ‘brilliant news’.

Tuanzebe helped Villa return to the Premier League back in the 2018/19 campaign, making 35 appearances in the Midlands.

Villa fans react

Birmingham Live relayed Kenny’s comments in a story and shared that on Twitter, asking fans if Villa should do a deal.

This is what these Villa fans had to say in reply, with many excited at the possibility of a deal.

Fofana dominates Saints in LCFC win

Leicester City managed to book a place at their fifth FA Cup final as they overcame Southampton 1-0 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

The performance was not exactly sparkling from Brendan Rodgers’ men, with Kelechi Iheanacho’s solitary goal proving enough for the Foxes to get beyond the Saints.

Whilst the Nigerian proved to be the match-winner for Leicester, it was a man at the other end of the pitch, Wesley Fofana, who was arguably more pivotal.

At just 20 years of age, the young French defender might well have been overawed by the occasion but there was simply no sign of that.

According to WhoScored, the former Saint Etienne man contributed two tackles and two clearances as he continued to keep Saints frontman Danny Ings quiet.

However, it was in Fofana’s anticipation of danger where he came in most key. Throughout the 90 minutes, he produced a game-high six interceptions – only Jan Bednarek on each side replicating that number.

For comparison, the rest of the Leicester team could only produce six interceptions in total between them – highlighting just how alert Fofana was at Wembley.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-leicester-city-news%2c-transfer-rumours-and-more-soumare-soyuncu-edouard-jakupovic-lookman” title=”Latest Leicester City news, transfer rumours and more… “]

Even when the Saints attempted to bypass the Leicester man, he proved a formidable wall.

Of the 19 duels that Fofana attempted, he won 12 of those, only being beaten in the air on three occasions throughout the entire match according to SofaScore.

His performance did not just end with his defensive work though. The centre-back, who has been hailed as “incredible” by Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers, also completed 57 passes in the match – a figure only beaten by Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu in the Leicester side.

Meanwhile, he also had 80 touches of the ball – no player in the Foxes’ squad matching that figure.

So, whilst Iheanacho will claim the plaudits having guided Leicester through to the fifth FA Cup final in their history, Fofana certainly played his part too.

Levy and Spurs ready to do one thing for Pochettino

As quoted by French newspaper L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), a source has explained that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is ‘ready’ to do one thing as he pursues Paris-Saint Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The Lowdown: Return of Poch?

Just over a year and a half after leaving Tottenham, the 49-year-old could now make a sensational return to north London as reports emerge of his interest in coming back to the club.

Indeed, Pochettino could swap the French capital for an N17 return after The Athletic broke news of Tottenham’s contact with their former manager.

He reportedly fancies the idea of becoming Tottenham’s head coach once again, but one huge obstacle appears to be PSG, with the Argentine’s current club not keen on losing him this summer.

The Latest: L’Equipe source makes big Levy claim…

As per the print edition of French newspaper L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), a source close to the situation has detailed just how desperate Levy is to see Pochettino return to Spurs.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/all-things-spurry/” title=”Spurs news and gossip!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Tottenham chairman is apparently ‘ready’ to make ‘lots of concessions’ in pursuit of the Lilywhites fan favourite, with Levy also holding a belief this appointment could ease the pressure on his position.

“Daniel Levy knows that, in the face of his unpopularity, he doesn’t have much choice,” the source explained to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) when asked on the Pochettino situation.

“He is ready to make lots of concessions. Bringing back Pochettino, very popular, could allow him to come out of the crisis from the top.”

The Verdict: Boost for Tottenham?

That Levy is seemingly ready to make concessions to land his man could come as an exciting claim for Spurs supporters, but the Spurs chairman’s apparent reasoning behind a possible return for Pochettino may be worrying and indicate a lack of critical thinking.

Indeed, re-hiring the former Southampton manager would come as a big PR win for Levy and may do wonders to appease a large section of fans who, in recent weeks, have voiced their displeasure with his running of the club.

If he really wants what is best for Tottenham, the 59-year-old may have to think harder over who could be the best appointment logically – and that doesn’t necessarily mean the most popular choice.

Man Utd favourites for Jude Bellingham

Manchester United have reportedly become the favourites to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to add further reinforcements to his first-team squad.

What’s the story?

According to The Sun, United have stolen a march of their rivals in the pursuit of the highly-rated 18-year-old’s signature.

The report states that: “A source said: ‘United may have lost out last year when he moved to Germany, but the groundwork they put in has made a lasting impression on Jude and his family.

“They were really impressed with the effort United made and the respect they were shown by everyone at the club. Meeting Sir Alex Ferguson was the icing on the cake.

“Ultimately, as Jude has made clear since, he decided to move to the club where he could see he would play games straight away and gain top-level experience week in, week out.

“United couldn’t offer that, but his memories from that day and the interactions he had with the club are extremely fond ones. United did everything right so maybe in the future that will work in their favour.'”

Solskjaer would love him

Bellingham was first linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer, but he eventually decided to snub the advances of the 20-time English champions, instead choosing to join Dortmund in a £25m move.

His impressive performances at the Signal Iduna Park earned him a call up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad despite his tender years and he clearly impressed the national team manager.

“Jude is phenomenal. Just in training in the last couple of days, to have a 17-year-old, who wants to compete with senior players, not only has the technique but the competitiveness and maturity… he’s a hugely exciting player,” said Southgate.

After playing a limited role in the Three Lions’ run to the final of the European Championships, Bellingham has hit the ground running for his club this season, bagging two goals and providing four assists in just eight appearances.

It was widely reported that Solskjaer was keen to bring another midfielder to Old Trafford over the summer as Eduardo Camavinga and Saul Niguez were heavily linked, but the pair moved to Real Madrid and Chelsea, respectively.

With Paul Pogba entering the final year of his contract with the Red Devils, potentially seeing him depart on a free transfer in 12 months’ time, it’s easy to understand why the Norwegian tactician is determined to bring in extra options, which is why John Murtough must do all he can to get a deal done.

The arrival of Bellingham would significantly soften the blow of the World Cup winner’s potential exit, allowing Solskjaer to continue his progress in the red half of Manchester.
